We must take care of those who take care of us
Utica, New York Mayor David Roefaro is about to propose a tax increase so there can be two police officers per car.
In the days after the murders of Officer Tom Lindsey and Joe Corr, everyone was amazed at the outpouring of support from the community in the form of donations. The amount of money raised was astounding. And the money still trickles in through fundraisers in the fallen officers’ names.
My message today: Before you complain about taxes going up, just think of the money you gave after the murders. If you don’t give beforehand in the form of taxes, you will probably end up whipping out your checkbook again to donate money to yet another officer’s widow.
Before or after? It’s not that difficult of an answer. I am a Utica homeowner and business owner who lives on a modest income. I am all for raising taxes if it saves even one police officer’s life. |
